Reason to Consider Steel Garages

When you decide you want to have a garage built, one of the first things you need to decide is whether to go with a regular, wood-built unit or one made of steel. While it is more common to see wood-built units, steel garages are starting to become more popular. The simple reason is the many benefits metal garages have over wooden ones. Here are a few things to keep in mind before you make your decision.

Maintenance

Wooden garages can fade in color, chip, crack, and look weather-worn with time. You will need to scrape off the paint, repair any wood damaged by rain or snow, and repaint them on a regular basis. A garage made of steel will be powder coated so the paint does not fade. Steel does not absorb water to swell, warp, or chip. Maintenance for metal buildings involves a hose and some soap to keep it clean.

Pest and Mold Resistant

Termites and other pests cannot chew into steel the way they can into wooden structures. You will not have to worry about pests getting into the walls to chew on the electrical wiring. While it is possible some pests can crawl under the wall, as long as you keep the walls tightly sealed to the foundation there will be no problem. In addition, steel will not have mold or mildew growing on it. This means you won't have to worry about someone becoming sick from inhaling spores or the walls weakening from mold.

Fire Resistance

Steel will not catch on fire. You won't have to worry about a stray ember or spark coming from machinery or welding equipment when working in the garage. This means your insurance premiums for the new building will be lower, saving you money every month.

Visit a business that manufactures or sells steel garages to see what they have to offer. You will be pleasantly surprised to see there are a wide variety of options available to you. Often, these buildings can be built at the factory and shipped to your location, sparing you from the issues that come up with having a crew doing the building on the property. In addition, when built at the factory you won't have to worry about the weather stopping the work. Rain, snow, and winds won't matter when the unit is being made inside. This means you can get your garage much quicker.
